The P-51 Mustang was first manufactured as a result of a RAF request in 1940 for a fast, heavily armed fighter able to operate at altitudes of more than 20,000 feet. The P-51D was the most widely produced variant of the Mustang family, and one of the photo reconnaissance versions was designated the F-6D. A total of 126 P-51D Mustangs built at the North American Inglewood plant in California USA were converted to this F-6D version. They carried two cameras in the rear of the fuselage, generally a K17 and a K22. One camera was aimed almost horizontally to the left while the other was directed downwards at an oblique angle. These specially equipped aircraft were used to gain vital aerial intelligence over enemy-held territory during World War II.

Franklin Mint DC3 TAA and Ansett on Special - $250 each!

TAA VH-AES  1:48 scale diecast limited edition model - just $250 (normally $320)!

This TAA DC-3 registration VH-AES (named "Hawdon") was originally delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force in November 1942 and transferred to the USAAF in Australia in January 1943 as "Shanghai Lil". It was then purchased by DCA (Department of Civil Aviation) in August 1944, was loaned to Australian National Airways (ANA) for use as a passenger airliner. After serving with ANA, it was then flown by Trans Australian Airlines (TAA) as 'Hawdon' commencing in July 3rd, 1946 and flew the new TAA airline first passenger service on September 9th. It last flew in TAA service in September 1971 and was then immortalized by being suspended from a large hoop in front of the passenger terminal of the then-new Tullamarine Airport in Melbourne. It was restored to flying condition in 1988 and can still be seen flying today. The Armour Collection replica of this legendary aircraft is produced with the kind permission and assistance of the TAA Heritage Museum and depicts "Hawdon" as she appeared in her TAA livery.
This impressive 1:48 scale captures incredible detail including authentic cockpit layout with full instrumentation. The model is outfitted with authentic features such as landing gear, battle armaments and detailed cockpits. The aircraft is individually hand-decorated with its original authentic TAA paint scheme and historic military markings. This is an exceptional die-cast replica by Franklin Mint Precision Models never to be repeated.

ANSETT VH-ABR  1:48 scale diecast limited edition model - just $250 (normally $320)!

Ansett VH-ABR was initially built in September 1938 and was purchased new by Australian National Airways (ANA) for £32,400, the third DC-3 to be imported into Australia. It was assembled at Essendon Aerodrome and first flown in October 1938, registered as VH-ABR and named "Kanana" (Quiet).
It was subsequently chartered by the Commonwealth Government for use by the RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force) in September 1939, following the outbreak of World War II. It was registered as A30-3 and issued to No. 8 Squadron, Canberra in September 1939 and operated in full camouflage markings.
The aircraft was returned to ANA in May 1940 and operated daily, flying on the Melbourne-Deniliquin-Griffith-Narrandera-Wagga Wagga-Sydney service.
The aircraft was registered to the new merged Ansett-ANA airline in June 1961 and operated its last scheduled Ansett service on December 27th, 1972. Placed in storage inside Hangar 151 at Melbourne's Essendon Airport, it has been reactivated and now flies occasional special charter flights and visits to airshows.

Special - A380 QANTAS - Dragon Item No:55914

We have purchased a large number of Dragon 1:400 A380 QANTAS diecast scale models (Item No:55914) and are able to offer them at the dicsounted price of $40 each -  a saving of $20 (normal price $60).

These are painted in the new QANTAS livery. The models are in perfect condition but the box has been slightly water damaged.

Just discovered (on Twitter) that our ISP has had a severe attack on their network and servers late on Saturday night. They are still working to restore services but they have not provided any estimate of when they will be able to make the websites they host available. I will provide more information on when our website is likely to be available again as soon as I can.

Brunel Hobbies Website Down Since Late Saturday (11 June)

The Brunel Hobbies website has been unavailable since late on Saturday night (11 June) and is still not back up. Despite our many attempts to contact our ISP (Click n Go/DistributeIT) we have not received any information from them on what the outage cause is or when the website might be back up.

Scale Tractors - Limited Stock Available!

We have acquired a limited stock of scale tractors that are no longer made (see Tractors for a list and price of the those available). They are in 1:43, 1:32 and 1:16 scale. The tractor above is the  Renault D22 made in 1956 which is available in both 1:16 and 1:32 scale.

We now stock MyLocoSound soundcards that can be installed in engines or rolling stock for HO/OO and O Scale railways. Those that model N scale can install the soundcard under the baseboard and connect it to the controller directly.

Trackrite - Product of the Week.

The Australian made track underlay system Trackrite is available in store.

This is a track underlay system for HO/OO, N, On30, HOn and HOm Gauge Track. This track underlay is made from a very good quality weatherproof foam and is resistant to UV light decay (making it suitable for inside or outside layouts). It is not effected by solvents, glues, oil, etc, which makes it ideal for model railway use. It also deadens the annoying "drum board" noise of passing trains due to its foam texture.
